HIGH SCHOOL SAILING
There will be an introduction meeting at the West River Sailing Club on September 9th, 2019 starting at 7 pm. All are welcome! RSVP via the link to the right!!!
This meeting will be to map out our goals for Fall 2019, get a count of how many sailors to expect, schedule practices, and sort out the logistics of the 2019 Fall Season.
Southern High has had a team on and off for the past few decades with one team competing at High School Nationals, yet they have never found a permanent space to call home within the Annapolis area high school sailing programs. West River Sailing Club, in support of our mission and our junior sailors, intends to start and host a high school sailing program for Southern High's Bulldogs, any other schools wanting to start a team, and any other sailors who do not have access to a team*.
West River Sailing Club has the facilities for the program ready to go, all we need is interest!
There will be weekly practices (schedule dependent on future meetings) and regattas on weekends through early November for the Fall 2019 Season. More details on schedules, practices, regattas, and costs will be posted once it known. We have our August 23rd meeting and will be having a second one during the second week of the AACPS school year. Date and time TBD.
This team will be joining the 5000 sailors who compete in high school sailing across the United States. We will mainly compete against schools in Maryland and DC as a part of the Maryland Inter-Scholastic Sailing Association (MDISA) league, a subset of the Mid-Atlantic Scholastic Sailing Assocaition (MASSA) league. At MDISA events, we will be competing at unique venues all over the area. At MASSA events, sailors from Virginia to New York compete to advance to higher level events on the path to High School Nationals.
*Sailors who's school does not have a team may not be able to compete in qualifying events (with the exception of single-handed regattas).
